"I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD GET TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS."

Sooners For Haiti 2018

For the past eight summers, a group of 45 student athletes from the University of Oklahoma travel to Titanyen, Haiti to serve with the organization, Mission of Hope.  I have had the privilege to document this trip three times. It’s a joy to return to Haiti! This was my fifth journey here and each time there is a stand out moment. It’s obvious that playing sports with, laughing alongside, and holding onto kids is an adorable picture and creates lifetime memories. But on our last day, a group of us took a detour home and visited another ministry within Mission of Hope, The Grace House , a home for the elderly. I never would have expected to have so much emotion, there was just something in the air. With the help of a translator, the students began to talk with and pray for a few of the adults and after a while these college kids were trying to think of something they could give — they decided to sing with them. I had just went to grab a piece of gear from the truck when a few people turned to me and asked if I could sing a few songs. As someone who typically observes others’ experiences, it was so special to take part and offer up a little known gift of mine to create a memory we will all never forget.
